The White team defeated the Black squad 12-3 in the evenly matched and defense-dominated Southern Oregon University Spring Football Game at Raider Stadium this afternoon. After the Black team staked an early 3-0 lead on a 35-yard Ryan Baker field goal, quarterback Boomer Marshall, a redshirt freshman from South Medford High, led two touchdown-scoring drives for the victorious White team. Junior running back T.J. Smith a transfer from Shasta Junior College, who led all rushers with 22-yards on 8 carries, capped a 70-yard drive and put the White team on top 6-3 following a one-yard first-half scoring plunge. Marshall, who finished 10-for-16 for 67-yards, culminated the scoring by connecting with redshirt freshman running back Tyler Bloomfeldt on a 13-yard bubble screen pass late in the second half. The Black team was paced by senior receiver Carl Dice, who had 76 yards on five catches, and quarterbacks Justin Despotakis and Brandon Griffith went a combined 8-18 for 118-yards. Redshirt freshman quarterback Dan Downey went 5-for-10 for 36 yards for the White squad. Defensively, Kellan Quick (Black), Brandon Beatty (White), and Nick Pilon (White) each registered an interception, while senior 300-pound defensive linemen Josh Redeau (White) and Pete Tuialuuluu (Black) dominated the line of scrimmage.
